A virtual library is a place in which items are stored digitally as opposed to the classic print format. This enables people to access online at any time. A digital library has collections are stored in digital formats (as opposed to print, microform or other media) and is accessible by computers. The digital content may be stored locally or accessed remotely via computer networks. A digital library is a type of information retrieval system.
ITT Tech offers AAS, bachelor’s BAS, and master’s (business-only, online) degrees. ITT Tech is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools. The mission of the Virtual Library is to help promote and support all that the ITT Technical Institutes provide by offering access to online information for research and learning.
To access the ITT Tech Virtual Library, students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests must first get the required permissions. The user of a digital library need not to go to the library physically; people from all over the world can gain access to the same information sitting in the comfort of their homes. A major advantage of digital libraries is that people can gain access to the information24/7. The same resources can be used, subject of course to digital rights, simultaneously by a number of institutions and patrons. The user is able to use any search term (word, phrase, title, name, and subject) to search the entire collection. Digital libraries provide very user-friendly interfaces, giving clickable access to its resources. Digitization is not a long-term preservation solution for physical collections but it does succeed in providing access to copies of materials that would otherwise fall to degradation from repeated use. Whereas traditional libraries are limited by storage space, digital libraries have the potential to store much more information simply because digital information and media storage requires very little physical space to contain them. Digitization can enhance legibility and remove visible flaws such as stains and discoloration.
